What Is Canine USMI?
Urethral Sphincter Mechanism Incompetence, or USMI, is one of the most common causes of urinary incontinence in dogs.
It occurs when the urethral sphincter does not close tightly enough to prevent urine leakage. Dogs may leak urine while resting or sleeping, often without being aware of it. USMI is most frequently seen in spayed female dogs, but it can affect males as well.
